Southern Grove Melons

Zones 7-10

From the delight of watermelon dripping with flavor to the sugar rush of honeydew, it's no secret that melons grow superbly in hot southern weather. Melons thrive in warm temperatures, and the southern United States provides a long growing season with consistently high temperatures. Melon plants require heat to properly ripen their fruits and develop their sweet flavors. The warm temperatures throughout the season promote continuous growth and development of melon fruits, resulting in larger, sweeter, and more flavorful melons. And, melons love the rich organic matter in Southern soil. If you're new to southern gardening, or even an experienced veteran, you'll find that melons are some of the most satisfying plants to grow in Zones 7 through 10.
